Getting ready to head out of beautiful Dillon, Colorado…. Currently 50 degrees outside, absolutely perfect with a nice fresh scent in the air…

Off to Sin City!

Temps have dropped into the mid 60s, ryan has never driven mountain passes before so he is quite astonished at the fact that even WOT will not maintain 65mph in some instances!

Hopefully the next update will be from the hotel!

We are officially in Denver, just passed DIA… Current temp is 82ºF; mountains are in sight!

GPS still claims ~1hr left; but we just entered some more construction

The plains of Colorado have welcomed us; after a quick fuel stop in Sterling, CO we are back on the road!

We have traded our Jetta 2.5 cruising buddy for a CR-V from Connecticut… Cruising speed has stayed similar in the mid to upper 80s.

Currently about 80 miles outside of Denver.

So far we have seen a lot of corn; a lot of low flying crop dusters; a very smelly cow “harvesting” arena; and an excessive number of BS construction zones; all with few to no workers in them.

Although the speed limit signs during these areas still said 75; our best was usually in the 50s or lower 60s…. As of right now our ETA to Dillon, CO is 8:57pm MST; averaging about 74MPH including some traffic we hit around Omaha.

About 8 more miles until we hit I-76 off of I-80W; for now; back to following a CO tagged ‘08/09 Jetta 2.5 at a calm 85MPH pace….

We also just saw a true “cowboy” on a ATV herd a HUGE group of cow/cattle

End of the driving day; we have made our home for the night in Walcott, Iowa… We are just a few hundred feet from the World’s Largest Truck Stop; Iowa80.

The plan for tomorrow is to drive until we get to somewhere between Denver, Colorado and SLC, Utah. However, a quick pitstop before departure to tour the truckstop/chrome shop/etc.

We are on the road, about an hour late. First stop Iowa80 truck stop

Why is this here? Because we had an idea; very similar to this time last year; to take a last minute cross country jaunt. Last year brought an adventure on the AKA Rally; this year, brings a new adventure, one fueled only by our imaginations and self lunacy.

The basics:

-1 VW
-8-11 days
-Lots of technology
-LOTS of driving
-A mixture of the USA

My personal goal is to hit as many different types of terrain as possible, as of now we are almost certain to hit: Coastline, foothills, corn fields, plains, the Rocky Mtns, and desert. Perhaps some beach sand in there? Who knows, we could end up in the forest, or maybe even Canada or Mexico!

Tomorrow should bring an official sit-down meeting to decide our plans, more updates then!
